Blair Bogin is a video artist, astrologer, hermetic mystery freak and clown. Her work combines documentary story-starry-telling with surrealist humor. She puts the technical integrity of astrology through different styles of improvisation or rhythmic non-sense, testing the sky-to-art channel with moving image horoscopes and comedy theater. Blair received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and spent many years immersed in physical theater clown school. She is the Director of the alt-comedy astrology troupe, Planets, Planets, Planets: a cast of ten comedians live-performing charts around Los Angeles, from The Getty to underground birthday parties. Her solo work continues to explore new aesthetic and conceptual possibilities for ancient symbolism, including horoscopes for non-human forms, food, trees, clouds or the escalator at the mall. Ultimately, she seeks to bring a cathartic experience to everyday audiences that might know nothing about astrology, but through the comedic form, are able to sense its fuller range of poetry. She has performed live at Pitchfork Music Festival, The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center NYC, The Getty, & The Poetry Foundation. Her video art has been exhibited around the USA and Canada including Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, VIVO Media Arts Center and Temple Contemporary. She was a William Merchant R. French Fellowship recipient and an artist-in-residence at HATCH Projects, ACRE, Elsewhere Museum, Ox-Bow, Platte Forum Colorado, Hub14 Performance in Toronto, The Future Mpls & Visual Studies Workshop.
